Gospels Through the Perspective of Grace - Gospel of Matthew Bible Study Recap – Matthew 3 & 4 On August 20th , our group gathered for another Bible study, this time focusing on chapters 3 and 4 of the Gospel of Matthew. The study was led by Rev. Marvel Souza , who began with a short introduction about why Matthew is placed first in the New Testament. He explained that Matthew’s message and purpose show how Jesus fulfills the promises of the Old Testament, making clear the connection between God’s covenant with Israel and the new covenant in Christ. Rev. Marvel also highlighted how some chapters of Matthew mirror the first five books of the Bible (the Torah). For example: Matthew chapter 1 reflects Genesis , since it tells the story of Jesus’ origins. Matthew chapter 2 connects with Exodus , showing Jesus’ time in Egypt, the flight from danger, and the persecution of newborns—reminding us of Moses’ story. A vida humana é sempre cheia de desafios que nos fazem refletir sobre nossas capacidades, limitações, anseios, medos, prazeres, temperamento e personalidade. É interessante pensar que AGIMOS COMO PLANEJAMOS, mas SEMPRE REAGIMOS COMO SOMOS.  Isso significa dizer que o planejamento nos ajuda a conter nosso próprio ego e consequentemente nossas ações, que segundo a bíblia podem ser boas ou ruins para nós mesmos e para o nosso próximo.  No entanto, como quase sempre estamos reagindo às situações desafiadoras da vida, como por exemplo, às dívidas, às doenças, aos problemas familiares, à perda de um ente querido, aos problemas no trabalho, à quem nos ofende e etc; na maior parte do tempo estamos no modo reativo, reagindo aos desafios. Para os Metodistas Unidos, ser membro significa fazer parte de uma comunhão de seguidores de Jesus Cristo que procuram tornar o mundo mais parecido com o Reino de Deus. Nossa compreensão do que significa ser um membro está profundamente enraizada em nossa herança metodista. John Wesley, fundador do movimento metodista, deixou claro que o cristianismo é uma religião social e que nosso crescimento na santidade do coração e da vida depende profundamente de estarmos em comunidade cara a cara com outras pessoas que estão cuidando de nós (e nós deles) em amor. É através desses relacionamentos face a face que experimentamos o que significa ser o corpo de Cristo no mundo.
